Pressure Lantern's

Anyone still use pressure lantern's? I have fired up a couple of oldies lately. A Tilley 246 and an Aussie made Aladdin Storm lantern and they blitz my LED and flouro lamps by a country mile.

Hurricane lamps have a wick. Pressure lamps have a mantle like a gas lantern, and are much brighter. The current Coleman's use Shellite or unleaded petrol. The older Tilley's etc use kerosene and are pre heated with metho. Awesome lanterns.

mate of mine had one of the mantle style ones last trip and it deadset went for hours without needing pumping. I was pleasantly suprised.

I still use them. Have quite a collection. Mostly I use my Tilley X246, Coleman 249 and Petromax 829. All of them completely blow any LED and fluoros out of the park. Great for night fishing too. The Petromax is the brightest. I have some kero and some shellite. Kero is slightly brighter but needs preheating.
Very funny Scotty, now beam down my clothes !

This Coleman was made in 1919 and it is by far my brightest lantern. Runs on Shellite but can operate on Kero if a pre burner is fitted.
