Butinga Qld

hi every 1 well the December meeting is off but as Betinga was mentioned I thought Id do a recon to see and do a report, it took about 1hr and half from gold coast the drive in is signposted 4x4 only, but a high clearance vehicle like a ute would be ok, I wouldn’t go in in a car there are 5 water crossings to go through not deep but if it did storm while you where camping you could get caught out the hosts leave there Holden at the first water crossing and 4x4 in. the facilities are a little crude and wouldn’t suit everyone the toilets and there are 2 are corrugated iron the 1 I viewed had no door on only a plastic sack however to be fair the owners said the door had fell off and would be getting fixed...There was a river running through the property which is 41acres and a couple of deep swimming holes, I was told by the owners however I didn’t view them, there where a couple of large fire pits with seating around made from fallen trees. at the top of the property the owner told me there where a few caves but that they didn’t go deep. The camping ground itself was nice and flat and quite lush after the rains we have just had. The flies where terrible due to it being cattle country I asked if it normally like this, the owner said yes in the summer but in winter no so. so I for 1 wouldn’t camp there in the summer, solely because of the flies you wouldn’t be able to eat outside, and toilets facilities really need to be improved this is called a wilderness retreat and to some a drop toilet wouldn’t be a problem but to a lot especially the ladies I’m sure they would be put off,. the owners of this property came across like lovely friendly people and I’m sure if you camped there you would go a long way to find nicer people, also dogs are allowed as long as they are tethered of a night as wildlife do come out and the owners said dingoes or wild dogs have been known to come down from the O'Reillys national park.

looks a interesting place . The bush out house is a classic, You would think they could have built it a bit better than that . No wonder they are having trouble with council approval .

As Andy & Ange said, you just wonder how they didn't get Council approval. A real mystery. :?

Anyhow I have a portable loo, which i can bring. :booty

OK Troy I will organise queens birthday weekend, even though its a long way off, but to be honest Butinga is a bit rough for many. What if we said queen mary falls, nice showers and toilets, pets allowed dont need a 4x4, nice walks to the water fall and hill walks,we can have a fire. Have to bring warm clothes though it gets cold in the hills of a night, last time I was there it blew a storm about 1am I was out there tieing the tent down in the wind and rain.
dont worry everyone it wont be like that I hope. This is only a suggestion what does everyone else think.Alan

Yeah getting ahead of myself. Queen Mary is not a bad option though.

Great, I'll definitely pencil it in at this stage. How many people do you normally have turn up at these events?? Cheers

To date we have only had the one trip. Got five families camping over and a couple of day trippers. Not big numbers but hopeful numbers will grow with the next few trips. The gatherings are open to all, including families, couples, singles etc etc. No discrimination here. Hey we even allow Jayco owners!

Next trip is in feb Details at http://forum.camping.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=1970

There is a report and video on our last trip at
Report http://forum.camping.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=1949
Video http://forum.camping.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=1979

Of course we are open to suggestions for venues etc :cheers
