Boreen Point

Boreen Point

Postby smiththenovice » Mon Oct 19, 2009 2:30 pm

We went to Boreen Point on the weekend and had such a fantastic time I thought I would share with you all. After getting lost on a dirt road (thanks to google maps on the iphone!) we arrived at about 2pm (2 hours from Brisbane). Next time we will try to arrive earlier because it was absolutely packed. We managed to find a quiet little spot right up the back. This actually turned out to be a pretty good position because the wind picked up in the afternoon (which I'm told is pretty normal for BP). We were sheltered by a little burnt out forest.

Busted out the new oztent and we were completely set up in 10 minutes...tent (pegs and ropes) cooker, table chairs, sleeping stuff etc. The lake was gorgeous, especially glassy in the morning...knee deep forever, so great for the little ones. Kids loved sliding down the ramps at the little skate park, shop at the entrance to the camp ground sells pretty much everything including hot food and camping supplies. Beautiful old pub (circa 1870) short walk away. Camp ground managers were fantastic, so friendly and helpful. $20ish for the night (for six of us). Clean amenities, free hot showers, gas and wood BBQs. Mostly bore water but some tank water also. No check out time...we were told we stay all day. They do not take bookings, except for on powered sites. Even had a visit from a bandicoot at night.

Would definitely recommend it, we will be back as soon as we get the chance.

Shame it is not pet friendly.....Thanks for your report and glad to hear the new tent was a great success.

Yes gypsylady it is a shame. Ours had to have a sleepover at grandma's. Funny you should mention it though, I was sure I heard a dog barking through the night...wondered whether somebody had smuggled theirs in

That is true Derek but unfortunately there are many who do not see them in that way.

Yes there are some who do dea....but unfortunately not the majority.

The number of people I have come across in my camping life who have suggested that I should just put them in a kennel because they hindered my lifestyle is quite unbelievable.

I often wonder how those people would react if I suggested they farm their children out for the same reason!!

...off my soapbox now....

You should see our lot they are two labs, one black and one golden. Not only are they our other kids they are also quite large and we have to put glow sticks around the black one's neck when bush camping so we can see him :***

Yes I have seen that done many times though I suspect for different reasons.

So just to get back on the topic of Boreen Point here for a minute....can I ask what day you arrived when it was so busy and hard to find a spot?

Cheers,
Neil

Neilg...it was Saturday afternoon, about 2pm. Monday was a pupil free day at schools so I don't know whether that had any impact on how busy it was. When I rang earlier in the week, the manager said he expected it was going to be a busy weekend. He was right!

We left on Sunday at about lunch time and by then it had cleared out a fair bit. But next time we will get there a bit earlier. After setting up we went for a walk up to the shop and noticed a couple of campers arrive and then leave, I assume they couldn't find a spot.

I was surprised, I thought we would have the place to ourselves :***
