I too have heard conflicting reports over time and as you say probably best to do a recce in order to confirm one way of the other.

We camped there for many years (regulars in fact) and noticed the progression of "change" at Johns Landing. It used to be a wonderful camp ground on the banks of the Noosa river. Now it's full of permanent residents..... think tobacco chewin', shotgun weildin', banjo playin' folk (drug takin') and you get the picture.

Seriously though, over time we got to know some of the nicer permanents quite well and the stories they told were more than enough to keep us away. That and the fact that somebody tried to steal my boat while we were away from the camp... Pity though, the fishing and crabbing around there is excellent.

By all means do a drive in... if it still looks like a car dump then drive straight out.

Feel free to PM me if you want the full stories...

"Deliverance" is coming to mind.
It's all fun and games until someone gets hurt - then it's bloody hilarious!
