Roma, Queensland. Some inside info.

Its not often you get your hands on some inside info as to how some parks are run, so here is some for Roma, Qld. Read it and you can decide for yourself if you still want to stay at these parks.

The 3 parks in Roma, as well as 15 or so others in QLD, are all owned and operated by The Dimidium Group, based in Sydney. This company is run by a group of mates who all went to uni and studied together, and they are the biggest bunch of money hungry buggers you've ever seen. Wherever they can save a dollar, they will, even if it is at the cost of peoples' lives and safety. All 3 parks in Roma have passed their fire saftey inspections - because they gave the local fire chief free accommodation and his wife a job, cleaning. Fire saftey is at the bottom of their list of priorities. At the top, is making money, lots of it. And because they have the monopoly in Roma, and Mt Isa and several other areas, they dont care where you stay, because it will always be at one of their parks.

Getting back to Roma, I can't put it any simpler than this - Stay at the Aussie Tourist Park. It's not the greatest, it doesn't have a pool, the motel rooms are from the 70's, but the young couple that run it are absolutely wonderful. The other 2 parks, Big Rig and Villa, are run by the kind of managers that Dimidium love - none of them have a spine, and they live, breathe and eat Dimidium. If the company asked these people to sell their kids to help the company, they would.

The managers of the Big Rig, for example, have their elderly mother living with them. because she is not able to do much around the park, she is of no use anymore. She has basically been told to go, so they can use the van she lives in to make more money. How nice. And if you so much as put a foot out of place in this park, expect to be abused and belittled by Steve, the Manager.I could go on and on about these people, but you have better things to do with your time. Just be warned. Drive a bit further and stay at Mitchell.

Good to know that about the monopoly parks, thank you. Mitchell ... when last I heard, it was free to stay for 2-3 days, worth looking into if you're heading that way.
