Brisbane Ranges NP - Fridays campsite

Brisbane Ranges NP - Fridays campsite

Postby capella_ben » Tue Jul 13, 2010 10:28 pm

Well I'm a Queenslander but found myself in Melbourne (in winter) with the camper trailer and had to find somewhere to go for a camp. So a quick search around and found the Brisbane Ranges National Park. They have a couple of camp sites there, Fridays and Stoney creek. The vic parks website said that you can't have campfires at Stoney Creek but when I was there I saw plenty of propper campfires.

We stayed at one of two camper trailer sites.

For some reason no-one else wanted to camp in winter, but we found it OK.

They had Male and Female drop toilets that were clean and stocked well with paper. The ranger turned up while we were there and checked it over.

They have very good fireplaces, but they are shared between two camp sites. They had a swing over hot plate as well which look very good. There are also picnic tables at most of the camp sites.

Next time I'm in Melbourne I'll be back.

We are blessed around Melbourne, Not in Melbourne.
You picked a magnificent spot.
I love Victoria in winter.

Yeah the bollards are a bit of a problem. These national parks people are control freaks. At least they did provide a spot for a couple of camper trailers. But with them being so popular lately I feel they need to do more.

Thanks for the report and photos

1 Advantage of winter camping is the lack of competition for sites
Cold doesn't bother me that's why we have camp fires and sleeping bags.
Looks like a nice spot, being so close to Melbourne I should put it down on
my list for a quick getaway spot.
Some national parks have long waiting lists for camping reservations.
