good day all

Well we just returned from an awesome week camping with the wife and 4 kids. we were due to arrive back on friday but the wife suggested that we stay an extra day seen the weather was good and all were having a great time. this shocked the s#!t out of me as the wife was not totally keen on the idea when i started planning to get back into camping a while ago. it seems i have come out on top with the camping idea with the wife saying she has had one of the best holidays ever in her life. we normally holiday in this area but stay in a holiday rental home so it was a big change for all.

the kids had a ball catching fish, chasing soldier crabs and swimming.

the spot we had was nice and quiet right on the water. we only seen 2 other people the whole time at the camp spot so we pretty much had the whole place just to ourselves.

caught plenty of fish and mud crabs which were cooked up and eaten for dinner. the wife even pulled in a nice size flatty! on the last night of fishing I landed a 74cm flathead weighing around 2.8kg which topped off a great trip. The flathead took me about 15 min to land on a 3-4 kg rod with 3kg line. the boat was missed a little mainly with regards to putting out the crab pots but i just paddled them out on my surfboard so it was not a total loss.

our camp checklist has been modified from the original with some items being deleted and a list of new items we will have to purchase before our next trip.

we are already planning the next trip away for later in the year possibly to the same location.

That now has to be a priority J'Cruiser, just think of the supper you can bring home if you have the boat available!!!!

thats true. but we did get a decent feed whilst away and we will be eating some of the fillets from the large flatty tonight  . bringing it home has also been good as i live very close to the river so i have put the waste in some crab pots and have been pulling muddies out of them all day  .

I am sure that can be improved upon by having a boat at your disposal....

I dont mean to be a wet blanket, but that flathead has maximum size limit of 70cm. Any fish over that size must be returned to the water as they are the female breeders at that size.
Next time you catch a big girl like that snap a quick pic and pop her back to make lots more little ones! Looks like you had a great time though, thanks for posting the report

Cheers and Beers
