Don't know where that is, but just general things I've found from hiking.

It's flamin obvious.... but.. PACK LITE

26ks of up and down hills with ~18kg isn't very fun (my first hiking trip  )

Don't wear jeans

Don't take your shirt off just cause your hot (sunburnt shoulders with a back pack = very painful)

I'll think of more later I'm sure

CG, I work on the theory that it will be freezing. If you are staying at one of the lodges with a fireplace you should be right

I haven't done the walk but have heard the track in places at times has not been well defined.

Anyhow enjoy it as I am sure it will be great.

I too havn't done the walk(and since my knee op I wont unless bionics happens prettty quickly, but 1 thing I have learnt, if your going to take extra, take extra water. cut the handle off things like your toothbrush to save weight but if your not 100% sure what water is ahead, take it.

I'd have to agree with Will on the water and some form of communications too would be good, maybe a personal Epirb. I would also look at something warm as well, something like thermals that are light weight and can be peeled off when necessary.

If you are camping over then that will raise a whole lot more issues....
