Beach Camping North Queensland - any ideas?

Postby trellov06 » Thu Aug 28, 2008 3:58 pm

Hi, am looking for ideas for beach camping in North Queensland. We have a camper trailer and 4 kids. Can anyone recommend a caravan park or national park close to the beach within about 4 hours of Cairns. We are looking at going in the September school holidays so don't have to worry about stingers but want to be able to swim in the sea without worrying about crocs! Let me know if anyone has any good recommendations.

Great idea BUT there are now Croc warnings in salt water from Rockhampton up to the top. So pick carefully.
Hope this doesnt dappen too much.

I agree ...crocs are on most of the coast.
I lived in Cairns for 3 years. Trying to think of parks that have stinger/croc enclosures at the beach.
Palm Cove, just north of Cairns has an enclosure.
Nice spot, but unable to recommend a camp or caravan park near there.
Coconut Village to the south of Cairns (about 15klms) has everything you want in a resort style CP. It is not near the water.

There is a caravan park on the Beach at the northern end of Palm Cove. Council operated.

Kurrimine Beach is a great spot with 3 Caravan Parks. One is a Council Park and the other 2 are private. We stayed there a few weeks back and it's a great little spot with decent swimming when the tide is in though stingers will be around. Kurrimine Beach Holiday park has a 25mtr pool that will keep the kids busy. There is also good fishing in the area and even better if you have a boat. Kurrimine Beach is just North of Tully, about 1hr40min from Cairns. Kurrimine Beach Holiday park also allows dogs if needed. One bad point is the sites are pretty small.....There is also King Reef Caravan Park which provides more space in is right on the beach as looks better IMO. Cowley Beach a little north of Kurrimine Beach is also a great little spot.....

Hope this helps.....
