Stradbroke Island

Postby Poodle Jewel » Wed Oct 01, 2008 8:55 pm

Have been searching the web both on North and South straddie to find places to camp with dogs that you can get to by car.The sites are pretty sad and don`t give much info at all, have sent some emails; does anyone know of a place? It seems most of them are run by council therefore no dogs allowed.

As far as I know, all of the grounds on North Straddie are council run, so no dogs. They are very strict with site allocations as well, and as a result you are limited to the exact confines of your site, even if there is nobody else about, and the sites are small.

Yes Amanda i think you are correct, have looked at several sites now, other than ones that are only accessable by 4wd it appears they are strict and some of the photos i saw the tents were practically on top of each other.

That's the main reason we stopped going there. We were at the Cylinder Beach ground a few years back in winter and the place was virtually empty, but we weren't allowed to choose our own site, we had to take the one they allocated to us, which was way up the back of the park, when we wanted to be by the water. Anyway, we'd just got ourselves set up when a new group of people arrived and guess where they were sent? right next to us! For the week that we were there, there were probably a maximum of about 8 groups of people there, and all of them on top of one another while the rest of the camp ground sat empty.

From memory its $120 for the car and $140 for a CT, so $260 return trip.

Yes those prices are correct,i only have the car but it does add extra cost to your trip.Had a look at some holiday houses, you would be better off leaving your CT at home and putting the extra money towards that but i guess then you wouldn`t be camping would you?.
Got an email back from some enquiries i made, only residents of the island are allowed dogs.
