Good riverside/lakeside bush camping in Vic?

Postby iwannacamp » Wed Sep 09, 2009 9:12 pm

Hi All,

Just wondering if any of you could recommend some good, private bush camping areas, anywhere near a river or lake. I like 'roughing it' and am self sufficient when camping, so I don't need all those luxeries. As long as i can have my wife, a campfire and my dog, i'm happy. Oh! and a bonus f I can take my fishing rod. :+

I don't expect people to 'reveal' their secret spots, but i'm fairly new to Victoria and don't know where to start, so any tips/hints would be great.

Thanks in advance people!

Thanks titch,

I have camped by the Buckland river and It was great! Explored all those old gold ruins. I did drink straight from the stream and ended up getting crook though!

We have camped out of Jamieson a few times, past Kevington on the road to Woods Point.
BIG gum trees though, the only thing I hate.
There's a lot of spots to camp, many designated, others just opportunistic.
Tunnel Bend's a good one, take the rod... although no idea about river levels atm.

A great spot is Rubicon Kendall A campsite plenty of room, river close by and very dog friendly. Only 90minutes from Lilydale
