Wheeny Creek or Upper Colo Reserve??

Postby funnymummy7 » Tue Dec 01, 2009 1:25 pm

:hello:

We are thinking about taking a few my 10yr daughter and friend out camping for the weekend.
Dont want to go far and Bents basin always gets packed. (We are in Penrith)
What are your thoughts on Wheeny Creek and Upper Colo Reserve??
Which is better for kids, swimming etc, how longs since you've been? You know the normal questions.
I know Wheeny is free and Upper Colo is not but i also know just cause you pay doesn't mean its the better place.
If you know of any where else close by please let me know.

Thank you
Cassandra.

I know the colo is awesome for swimming in as it's such a clean river.

Only thing I have heard about wheeny is some of the sites are fenced off a away from car spaces, so it can be a bit of a pain carrying gear back and forth.

Thank you, we ended up at Wheeny Creek, Not a bad place.
It was clean and the campsites were a good distance from eachother.
Your right about some of the campsites being fenced of from cars.
It was a little bit of a pain, but seeing as its free camping you soon get over it.
We had to walk past the cars to go to the toilets so every time someone did that, they had to bring somethings else from the car back lol.
Our camp was about 20 mtrs from cars so not too bad.
The creek was a nice depth for the kids to splash around without me having to worry about them.
Only complaint is i would have liked lights in the toilets :(

Good enough place that we will recommend it to others and we do plan to go back.

I have photo's just trying to work out where and how i post them :?

You might want to resize the pics funnymummy, make them more forum friendly. From what I can see it looks like quite a nice spot.

Does anyone actually fit in that little blue tent? It looks tiny!
It's all fun and games until someone gets hurt - then it's bloody hilarious!

Boy those pictures brought back some memories!! the last time I went through Wheeny creek was over 20 yrs ago & there was no bridge back then, just some rocks in cages across the stream!

Went through there in my trusty & mostly rusty old Ford Cortina, might have to put it on my to do list for a short camp with my kids ;)

:*** The little blue tent is my daughters, she didnt want to stay in the same tent as us cause she is old enough to have her own lol So seeing as she really wasnt going far we allowed it. Her and her friend climbed in snuggled up (as if they had a choice) and spent the night in the tiny tent :P
