NSW South Coast???

Postby alpharuby » Mon Dec 14, 2009 4:47 pm

Yes I've left my plans too late. I've been trawling the internet for a while looking for beachside car camping ANYWHERE on the south coast (between Nowra and Pambula). Would prefer primitive camping but would rather not spend >$20 a night per site. So does anyone know of any areas that are worth heading to and don't require a ballot application to be put in last August (yes I envy you greenpatch goers). Happy with NPs and have the guide but it doesn't have many pics. Tell me I'm not dreaming...

I'm one of those Greenpatchers you're referring to :D

If you go for an unpowered site at caravan parks, you might have better luck finding something. I've stayed at some nice parks down the south coast - Merimbula (Big4), Batemans Bay (Big4), Bermagui (Zane Grey Tourist Park) and the two in Huskisson.

Do you have Camps Australia Wide book ?
Well worth the money if you like to free / bush camp

ozcamps.net has a few places listed in that area

Eurobodalla National Park
Looks like Congo camping area costs $10 pp pn
but Brou Lake area is no cost

Some national parks have long waiting lists for camping reservations.

Thanks guys

Will try to grab a copy of the book you mentioned Bradd. Congo looks worth the trip.

Is there anywhere around Bermagui?

Also does anyone know if Mystery Bay gets busy? We won't be down until after 4th Jan.

If you belong to an auto club you should be able to pick one up from there for a discounted price.

Mystery Bay gets very crowded at xmas. There are a few camp sites at Mimosa Rocks National Park near Bermagui. My guide says its first in first served re site. Perhaps you should check with National Parks at Narooma

Merry Beach CP could be worth a try.

You could consider somewhere a bit inland from the coast - there are some nice state parks down there.. http://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/forests/recreation/southcoast
