MALLACOOTA FORESHORE CP - Any opinions?????

Postby xmasbaby67 » Fri Apr 23, 2010 2:28 pm

We are about to book a powered waterfront site here for 5 nights from 30th Sept till 5th Oct.
We are also going to book the boat into a mooring right in front of our campsite.

Has anyone been here?

We are aware that is quite a big park and the amenities are old but all we need is some hot water for a shower after a day fishing and skiing on the lake ::)

Look forward to hearing others opinions about not only the CP but the area itself as we have heard so many stories of how beautiful it is and my hubby is convinced he wants to live there it sounds so good. :*** :***

Thanks

We stayed 3 nights in January
Management was friendly and helpful (only met one man)
Our site was right near the boat ramp and while it could get busy
our 3 yo thought it was great watching all the boats coming and going
and also liked the Pelicans.
It was a short walk for us into the main st where there are plenty of shops to stock up on supplies.

The park is pretty basic, but the amenities we used were clean and functional and the site fees were reasonable.

As for Mallacoota itself If you are into fishing and or boating its a great place, but as none of our lot was we found there was not a lot to see /do
and would have had just as good a time and seen just as much if we stayed at the free camp in Genoa (old caravan park).

Happy to answer any specific questions you might have if I can.

Thanks Bradd. :+

Sounds like we are camping pretty close to the same end of the park as you guys did.. We have a powered site(130) near the boat ramp and toilet block and have the boat moored in front of our campsite.

Hubby is a keen fisherman and has been hanging to go here for years so looking forward to it.
Our kids are happy just to be in the boat all day either fishing or waterskiing and me I am just happy to do absolutely nothing... :***

Any nice places to have lunch or a dinner out? Just a good pub feed is a dinner out to us!! :lol:

We will probably go for a bit of a drive around and check out the area a bit, I would love to have a look at Genoa and Gipsy point. We have been down as far a Metung before and had a look at Bairnsdale, Lakes Entrance & Cann river and we were very taken with the area, just loved it.

Thanks again ::)

Sorry we didn't "eat out" while there (except for the Ice Cream Parlour) so can't recommend anywhere.
Although there is a Pub and some take away places.

There is a hotel in Cann River

We went for a drive to check out a few of the camp areas in Croajingolong National Park.
It's a beautiful area and we spent almost a whole day driving and exploring.
You can also head Nth into the hills and Coopracambra National Park.

Thanks heaps for that Brad. :+

We will definately be checking out that great old pub in Cann River. We always stop in at the little towns on the way to check out the pubs and you meet the nicest people too. We must sound like alcos but we don't necessarily have a beer in each one, just some of the heritage in those old pubs is better than going to a museum. :cheers

Because we are away for five nights the cook(me) ;) usually requests one night off!! :***
We usually have a counter lunch and then rustle up something small for dinner then. And we also get to have a chat to the locals, who have some great stories to tell. :armsup

Thanks again it's always good to talk to someone who's been there.

Can't wait now.... ::)
