Cheap mobile internet in Australia

Postby martiner1 » Thu Aug 26, 2010 1:14 am

Hello,
I would like to share my experience with Vodafone ireland prepaid sim card with which you can surf in Australia and almost anywhere in Europe for 0,99 euro = 1.4 AUD per day with a limit of 50MB per day (24 hours). If you download more then you will be charged extra. There is no need to buy any addons for this you just need to set up your APN to live.vodafone.com.

I am using this sim card during my camping in Australia.
Here is a map where is it available to use this internet : http://www.vodafone.ie/planscosts/prepa ... sport/map/

I have bought this sim card on ebay from seller IESIM with 36 euro credit already topped up so I had enough credit for more than a month browsing. I have bought activated and not registered sim card which I have then registered online to my name and address. Then I have just used my unlocked USB broadband dongle set live.vodafone.com APN and it worked !

SIM card arrived in just 2 days. And as a bonus I can send 600 free SMS every month to any number in world for free from Vodafone.ie.
If anyone interested links to ebay auction here :

Martin, your Vodafone may work well in Europe.....but it is hopless anywhere is Aust other than the cities.

Telstra NextG is the only carrier for halfway reasonable coverage in rural/remote Australia. And this I know from personal expereince....not because of some blurb I have read somewhere or what some sales person has tried to tell me.

I have been with Vodafone for many years, but the thing to remember when thay say that they cover 92% of populated area of Australia is, that is just a thin belt around the coast. The vast majority of inland Australia has a very small population. Vodafone do however cover most main highways. They have the second best coverage in Australia next to Telstra.

Isn't it sad that most of the world know so little about our wonderful country. Only last night, I was watching the tv & 2 American girls were disputing over ... Is Australai a Continent or a Country. This is a bit sad when you realize the we are about the same size as the US. I think most of the world believe that Australia is about the size of Victoria because of the size of our population.

Thats ok Stevo....When I was in western Australia,,,Most had never seen snow or even left that State,,,,Some even thought Australia was an Island off New Zealand....and Visa versa.

I for one had had no idea of distance....I though you could drive from the East coast to the West coast in an afternoon....boy did I soon learn how wrong I was.....
Theres a really funny email that pops up every now and then of ''dumb'' things tourists write asking about Australia....(it should be arriving down your way soon Titch)...
