Advice re Moreton Island

Postby Felipe P » Wed Jan 12, 2011 12:39 pm

Hi there,

Just seeking some advice from more experienced campers - we have been planning a 1 week camping trip to Moreton, leaving sat 15.1.11.

With all the recent qld flooding, should we still go (ferry permitting of course)? Any adivce appreciated!

Thanks

I actually doubt the ferry would be operating...sooo much debris heading out to Moreton today and tomorrow, they are saying a lot of it will end up on moreton island. I would seriously be checking with the ferry service regularly and check whether camping is being permitted still...I know in 2009 floods on moreton camping was barred but the ferry was till operating and taking campers over only to be turned back by the rangers...there doesn't appear to be a lot of commuinication between the ferry operators and the rangers.

have you got a camp ground in mind?
i stayed at Blue Lagoon, was a nice little area, a bit of a walk to the lagoon itself, but worth it for a nice refreshing swim. the camp ground has toilets close, as well as cold showers.

fishing is good, the light house view is great.

just check the link below for conditions etc...

On low tide, you can do a full trip around the island, also the gutter bar at the southern end is a nice place for a feed and beer.

With the threat of a cyclone now looming, think I'd be giving it a miss this time.
