Is it legal to camp along remote stretches of beaches (or in the dunes) in NSW or Qld?

That question is a bit like 'how long is a piece of string??'

Unless you can be more specific Craig, I would say generally speaking it is not legal to camp anywhere unless you can obtain a permit for camping and or vehicular access.

I agree with you Gypsy.

I think unless they are camping grounds, State or National Parks or you can get a permit I would say no.

Where specifically were you thinking of?

Between Yeppoon and Mackay there is Stanage Bay (north of Shoalwater Bay) but not sure if there is camping available in the dunes or not. http://www.stanagebay.com/

Inskip Point would be what you are looking for Craig in the Rainbow Beach area. You will need a permit before you set up camp, QPWS are very strict about that one.

Double Island Point (Cooloola Coast) camping on the beach also but again you need a permit or Freshwater Campground
