Riverside camping?

Postby John G » Thu Jan 19, 2012 6:56 pm

Havent been camping for years, did a quick camp a while back and got the bug back. Wife and 5 kids are keen too.
Spent a heap of coin on some tents, gear and a trailer and went to Knorrits flat a few weeks back. Nice spot. River moves a bit fast for the 4 year old but he liked the canoe )
Soo.... my question is.. how many riverside camping spots are there withing say a 3 hr radius of port macquarie.. that are worth going to . Seen cundle flat and knorrits flat, not interested in swanns crossing.
Asking about riverside because wife cant swim in salt water. Amenities a plus. It being a Knorritts clone isn't a problem, just want to travel about a bit and enjoy some camping.

Not that it is too hard John, you just need to wait until someone who knows the area to come online.

'too hard' is a cheap way of bumping )

http://www.riverwooddowns.com.au/#/main-1 looks like a good spot, couldn't see a review on here of it.

Riverwood downs is great. Did a day trip there for dinner and was really nice, the river is great for a swim and canoo. Camp grounds are well kept.

A bit of gravel rd driving to get there but really nice.

:hello: Hi John welcome to the forum....

Sorry I haven't been on the forum for a while so I am still catching up with the reading.... ::()

Not very familiar with Port area but don't just look at riverside also try some lakes & dams.

The only thing up there in paradise will be to find one that is not salt water.

Not sure if the Wallamba River near Foster is fresh water or not???

Let us know how you get on and share some of the great sites that you find as our family are more mud runners than sand gropers. :*** :***

Your original post is 9 months old John....you might want to refresh everyone's memory....not everyone reads all the posts from the beginning....new members often just pop to the last one to see what has been posted....especially when it is an old posting.

Let's see if we can generate any new information though timing might not be on your side at the moment with everyone out camping.

Thought that would be enough info, lol.

Did some more research after I posted, seems hot showers beside freshwater are insanely rare. And that the wifes requirement to tolerate camping. Need to find a list with filters I can set to 'freshwater' 'hot showers'

John, I am not at all familiar with your area so have no idea what area 3 hours radius from Port Macquarie covers.

Have you looked at this site?? It might give you some more options. http://www.stateparks.nsw.gov.au/
