Who is willing to share their favourite camping recipe?

I've been looking round some camping stores today getting info on gas cookers. I think we'll get a 2 burner gas stove - a Coleman Instastart model took my fancy! Would you recommend I buy a camp oven too? I have no real idea how a camp oven works though! And how about bbqing? Is a griddle plate for a gas cooker a good accessory to have?

As the title suggests, I'm hoping to get some advice on camp cooking - your tools, your set up, and if you're willing to, share your recipes!

One carton of favourite beer
One packet of beer nuts.


Snip top of beer nut pack with scissors and pour contents into bowl.
Make sure you are seated in your comfy camp chair.
Open can/ bottle of beer and take a few swigs.
Consume nuts liberally.

Roast anything in the camp oven, easy to prepare easy to cook and if entertaining it makes you look like a master chef :armsup

Worlds best damper:
Self raising flour
Full cream milk powder
shikker of salt
Mix with clean floured hands & plop into camp oven.
(Variations = chuck in in chopped black olives, chives, parmesan etc)
Serve with chardonnay!

Quickest (edit, ok, maybe not the quickest :mrgreen: ) and easiest soup evaaaar: :armsup

1 Jar Leggo's Tomatoe paste
1 LARGE pot. Think mines about 5L :shock:
1 smaller pot (for cooking pasta)
1/2 a bunch of cellery
Almost a full bunch of parsely
1/2 an onion
1/2 a dozen carrots, peeled, either whole or quartered

Chop up the onion real fine, and brown it lightly with some oil. Then throw in the carrots, and celery, and parsely (chop some, maybe 1/2 of the parsely up, diced). Let this simmer for a bit then throw in all the tomatoe past and quickly add water stiring. Then to get all the paste up I add water to the jar and 'shake it all about' :lol: . Bring it to a boil and then let it cook for about 1/2hr just under boiling heat, and serve with pasta.

We have only been camping once but the easiest thing we made was Nacho's. All you need is mince and a jar of salsa and a packet of CC's. Cook the mince tip in the salsa and stir it through then serve. Throw on some cheese and eat with the CC's or a fork if your a wuss and a can or bottle of your chosen liquid in the other hand and your set!

We bought a camp oven recently, the last camping trip we got to try it out.

Yummmm roast pork and baked potatoes and carrots, bloody delish I tell ya.

Basically we just do bbq on a hot plate over the fire with some spuds wrapped in foil thrown in the coals.

Here is mine. You can see the results in my pic on the left.



1 1/2 cups self raising flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon mixed spice
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup sultanas
1 egg
1/2 cup oil
1/2 cup cold mashed pumpkin
1/2 cup milk


Mix together the flour, salt, nutmeg, spice, sultanas and sugar in a bowel. In another bowl beat together the milk, egg, oil, pumpkin and oil. Combine all the ingredients but dont over mix. Place paper muffin cups in a six cup muffin pan and divide the mixture evenly between them

Place muffin tray on a trivet in a preheated camp oven and cook for around twenty minutes
