SEQ Camping Weekend - Boreen Point - 14th/15th February

Postby amanda » Wed Jan 07, 2009 9:05 am

As Troy has sadly relinquished his title of SEQ organiser, I thought I'd put my hand up to arrange a weekend trip - just the one mind you! So I'd like to see if there is any interest in a trip in February. Unfortunately I have quite a few existing camping committments in March and April, so February is really the best for me at this stage, though I realise it may be a bit soon for some people. Anyway, I'll just bite the bullet and see what happens. The poll shows that family, fishing and beach camping choices are popular, so I thought Boreen Point would be a good start, also as the trip that was arranged for Boreen last year fell through.

At this stage I'm just looking to see if anyone is interested. So if you are, please let me know which weekend would suit you - February 14th and 15th, or February 21st and 22nd. Once (and if) I get any positive responses, I'll plan things a little further.

Either could be fine - but - the managers insist on a non-refundable deposit for powered sites and it's not clear if they allow tents in powered sites anyway. February weather being more unpredictable than most, at this stage we are theoretically interested but the practicalities of getting a powered site and the weather might not make it possible for us. Let's say "maybe" at best. The site sounds wonderful, we are acquainted with the area and it would be a delightful experience.

I have just spoken with Derek at Boreen Point ladies, and you'll be pleased to know that you do not need to pay a deposit, and yes, you can have a tent on a powerred site. The only problem is that the powered sites do have a slab on them, however he said that you would easily fit a tent on the grassed area of the site. His only request was that if we did in fact need a powered site that we let him know in advance so that he can keep one aside for us.

As far as the weather goes - if we get a couple of days out and things are looking cyclonic, flooded or whatver, we can easily make the call to cancel beforehand if we have to.

I'm keen I just have to convince the other half that camping in the hot month of February would be good. I'll work on him and let you know. This would be our first trip with our new camper trailer. Will there be any kids coming along?

Fortunately there is quite a bit of shade at Boreen Point, and with the water literally at your doorstep, "hot" camping there isn't too bad at all.

We are newbies to this site and camping but would be interested in coming if it all goes ahead.

Great Leah. I'll add a poll to this (when I can work out how) so that we can choose an exact date, and then it will be all go from there, as it looks like we have enough already to get into actually planning it all.

Probably best for you to pick a date Amanda and go for it. If you find the one you pick is not suitable then you can work around it.

Quite so Gypsy.

Let's lock it in as the weekend of the 14th/15th February.

As previously mentioned, I will need to know if anyone requires a powered site so that they can be set aside for us. So far I'm aware that Eileen and Eileen will need one, but if there are others please let me know.

Probably a good idea to put up a poll too Amanda....more so on who is coming, you only need two choices: yes coming or tentative. Don't need people to poll that they are not coming.

Also add power required and not required to the poll, that will give you a better idea of what is needed.

BTW, that is probably a good choice date wise too as it is a few weeks after the Aust Day long weekend.

Looking good Amanda.
