A place to talk about anything well just about anything (this is a family show remember).

11 cars out, only 10 return

Hi guys - just thought I would share a scary story about our weekend.
Most of the campers (including my hubby, I stayed back at camp with the kids) went 4wdriving on the Sat (rainy patches all day at Mt Mee) - the track they took was steep and very wet - a couple of cars got up on their own but most of them had to be winched. Our friends was the 2nd last car and the engine must have got too hot from the winching or the ongoing acceleration and caught fire under the bonnet - not one car had a fire extinguisher and the car just went up in flames. Luckily the passengers got out ok!!
They went back the next day to salvage anything - only 2 doors and a bonnet left.
Now no-one is sure what happened - if the car had a fault prior or the heat just got too much but the car is gone!!!
Bas (my hubby) says the 1st thing he is buying now is an extinguisher!!

Bugger about that. I got 2 extinguishers in mine cause the small ones are apparently useless. So 2 useless ones are better than 1

But thats not a bad day out, http://carl.outerlimits4x4.com/viewtopic.php?t=125535

18 go, 7 drive home. Thats a tough track

Also heard about a track in Barrington, 9 cars went out and 9 of them rolled over at one point :*** , think they still drove home though.

I always have at least a 1.5kg fire extinguisher - cars catch fire every easily.

Could have been anything. especially if it was a carbi motor.

I have had to put out a few cars with beer before because no-one was carrying an extinguisher most of the time it was dodgy wiring.

Being involved with car audio you have no idea how dodgy some people wire stuff up!

A mate of mine runs a car audio shop and 4 times in the last 12 months he has called customers and told them that either he spends x amount of time at so many dollars an hour fixing all their wiring issues - or they can pick up the car now as he doesnt want it in his shop as it poses a fire risk!

3 of those have been 4x4s...

He has even seen people screw things straight into a battery - fuse holders for example!

We bought one yesterday at Bunnings - probably never need it now but at least we have it and feel that little bit safer!!
