Australia Day Cooking

Postby Hissy » Wed Jan 30, 2008 11:30 pm

Well I did what any Dad stuck at home over the long weekend would do.

I used my new Dutch oven that I got for Christmas and cooked my first ever damper.

The great thing was it cooked and tasted great on my first attempt.

I followed Dereks instruction as per his method.

20 heat beads for about 40 minutes.

It took a little fussing around at first but I am glad it all worked out, yum yum. Golden syrup and lashings of butter.

I will be trying a cake mix this weekend as the oven is on the blink and its my wifes birthday. Wish me luck.

Good stuff Hissy. Just remember anything you can cook in the oven at home you can do in a camp oven. Always like doing a roast in them.

Was hoping that, with your experience, you'd be the one to empty it ... :#

And I sit here and wonder why my IQ is dropping - idiots :P

Good to hear your going to be getting good use out of the camp oven. Mum has just gone and put a deposit down on a very expencive camp oven in my eyes - an Aga 4 oven (costs almost as much as the deposit on my house!) IMO cant beat cooking in/on cast iron.

Look forward to hearing how the cake goes. I've only cooked muffins
