Power Usage??

Any idea what would be the power usage of a small Radio/Ipod system running through an Invertor in your Van running off your 12v Batteries? This is as opposed to the normal car radio that most have.

Just about negligible I'd say - BUT - isn't an iPod re-chargeable - so are you asking about using an inverter to charge it ? Either way it would be a very small current probably around 1 Amp maximum .

Sorry, maybe a misunderstanding. I have a 240v radio/ Ipod stereo and was thinking of running it through an invertor (off the 12v system) in the van. What do you reckon would be the power draw?

Look at the back of your units,on 240 volt, add all the wattage up. Ie 2400 watt divided by 240 equals 10 amps
Divide the wattage by 240, then throw 10% away as a rough rule of thumb.( so you would be using 11 amps)
On the conservative side.
Hope this is what (not Watt) your chasing.

Running the inverter will probably be using more draw from your battery than the radio its running
I have 8 batteries for our bus....one of which is to run the inverter,,,4000w...max 7000w

I'm not 100% sure but I have a little speaker that runs off 3 AAA batteries that I use to run the Ipod. It works well, It can be heard for some distance, So I like to put songs on that other people can enjoy. :D
