March 2011 Trip, thoughts please.

Postby Titch » Sat Aug 14, 2010 9:51 pm

March next year we have a rough plan of a trip to Kangaroo Island (1 week ) then to Cameron's corner.(3 Week trip.)
Our Van is a BlackTopper, but we are self sufficient.
What is the advice here ?
Take the van, or the Non, Off road Camper trailer.

I imagine a black topper is a road only van... no sunraysia wheels and no checkerplate :)

Which way are you planning on going to & from Cameron Corner Titch.

BTW am also planning another outback trip which will also take in the 'Corner' but it will be a little later in the year.

Also Titch....what fuel do you use?? Sometimes unleaded is unavailable at Cameron Corner and you need to advise them in advance if you are going to require something other than diesel.

We have a Nissan Navara Diesel.

Sorry Titch, I need you to be more specific....the road in to Cameron Corner and the road out that you are planning to take.

Diesel is good.

Well you need to give a bit more info before I can give you anything specific.

For example if you go into CC from Tibooburra....the last 20-30 klms is very corrugated, the Dunes Scenic Drive. If you go in or out via the Merty Merty track there are a lot of bull dust holes and corrugations.

I have been to CC twice, the last time being last year and on both occasions the roads have been too bad to take any vehicle etc on that was not an off road vehicle IMO.

Some of the bull dust holes were big enough to almost swallow my CT…well half of it.

I will be out that way again in May 2011 which of course is of no help to you if you are going in March.

It is pretty remote country…fabulous country but still remote and rough on vehicles. Trip preparation is not to be taken lightly.
