Yeah, can you believe Thargo was the first town in Australia and only the third in the world, after Paris and London to have hydroelectric power from 1898 to 1951.

This was BEFORE the Snowy River Scheme which only commenced in 1949.

Over the easter break this year we went to Cameron Corner from Tibooburra and then out to Thargo via Noccundra. Lot of water about up there, and there are some details on the blog. A lot of the roads, prior to us arriving, were closed as a result of the amount of water out there. Some were when we were up there. The Silver City Hwy and the Tib to CC road had been graded and were passable in a 2WD. CC to Noccy was a bit 4WD-y in places. Lots of water, corrugations and dust. What will it be like 7 months time... Hard to say. We relied on the NSW RTA website for road information. They indicate OPEN, CLOSED, 4WD and USE CAUTION from memory. There was another site that had road conditions for the region on it but I don't remember which it was, and it's not on this laptop.

Well Titch,,,I found it on goggle....still trying to work out why you would want to drive 1,000km out into the wop-wops to stay in that little town....even the river looks like its running upside down...

Cheers

Rosco....if you have to 'work out why'...then it's not in your blood. GREAT little town with lots of history.....hydroelectric power from 1898 to 1951.

Still has an 'open' bore drain running and definitely one of very few left to see. Why are these so special?? They used to run along side a good portion of our outback roads until the govt capped most of the open bores to save the artesian water.

OK Rosco I'm now definately sure that you are SOFT!!!!!!

Looks like a great trip Titch.....something we would love especially my hubby.... That bore is amazing......love towns with heaps of history....views are not all that matter...

Our first big trip when we can get away long enough is going to be the Darling River Run....can't wait...

Have been out to Broken Hill but that was 20 years ago and we stayed with friends who lived there. Would really love to get the time to go back again in the CT. My girlfriend and I are trying to plan something out there next year with both families even if its only for 5 nights.....Really loved Silverton as well.....the lookout out there I reckon you could see the curve of earth!!!!! Amazing country.

How true is that???

Have done the Darling Run a few years ago, dit it south to north but will do it in reverse next time. One of my favourite places in the outback is the Oodnadatta Track....have done it 3 times now and will do it again next year when I head out that way.

So much history to experience and even though it is relatively short, it is one track you could easily spend a week traversing.

Oh Rosco :--? shame :--? shame :--? shame

Its not just the Staying at the Town, its the journey to and from as well.
The Kidman way has a fantastic feel, the little towns etc. etc.
As for the view, there is something wonderful about the bleak.
Love the area,s to and from.
