Our Climate Smart fella told us the reason they say to turn off things at the wall is that it may not make a difference to your power bill as it is so minimal but to the rest of the grid it does make a difference. If everyone turned off at the wall the grid would be reducing its power overall. All in all a 'government' initiative to save themselves some money on producing power for the grid.

That sounds about right. Only in it for themselves. That's alright cos if they save money there, they'll only spend it exessively somewhere else.
Apparently in the US they have banned the sale of plasma tvs cos they use too much power. Guess where all our plasma tvs are coming from?! (another story from the electician so not sure if that's true).
