Going to freeze while Gold fossicking

Postby Dave-Yakka » Tue Jun 07, 2011 12:19 pm

I am going camping in NSW for the long weekend. To a property a friend owns just before Mudgee.
I will be camping in a swag, in below zero night temps (fist time camping in my swag, actually any swag)
so it should be eventfull none the less.
The aim of the weekend, a nice long 5 day weekend mind you, is to gather some gold.
leave friday, drive 10hrs to location, drink heaps around our fire and try to stay warm.
Sat, Sun, Mon, do some fishing, and gold pan around the creeks and see if we can't become instant millionares :+
and tuesday, drive 10hrs home.

So who here likes to do the odd prospect here and there, and do you use detecors, or "dig pan and see"
method.

any tips on keeping warm in freezing temps while sleeping in a swag? a tarp underfoot enough, or use those
foam matts under the swag, any tips...........

also i will do a report later next week.

Good luck with your camp. Certainly you can expect it to be cold. Ialways used the rule that you have at least as much warm stuff under you as you have on top. The foam mats are good as additional warmth

ay Dave, do you need a fossickers permit or something? I don't know anything about that stuff, interested in trying one day.

i dont think he needs a permit if he has permission from the property owner / his mate. I'd love to do some gold paning / metal detecting.
