Where Do You Live . . . Approximately?

Postby markannab » Sun Jan 18, 2009 7:06 am

I've introduced myself before but I've noticed that those who join the forum may or may not say where they're from in their introductory message in this section.

But many don't fill out any details in their Profile (see top right under User Control Panel). I understand that many don't want to share their personal contact information. I haven't. I don't share my MSN, Skype or email details, or give my home address. But how handy (and interesting) it is to at least know the general area that a person is from. For example, "Sydney area" or "SE QLD".

Though I'm quite new to the forum, I'm repeatedly noticing that ones will ask, "Where can I buy . . .?" or similar. Someone replies. THEN they say, "That's nice, but I live 1000km from there!" (or sentiments to that effect).

May I suggest we all add at least that little detail to our profiles (or our signature)?

Yes I would love to see the signatures updated with a region at least, if we could get the bulk of them done I could add a mapping service to show general location of users. Now that would be cool.

Yes i agree at least a region, sometimes a question is asked about "places to camp near us"" and you have no idea where they are.
