Holy cow the North Gregory is one MASSIVE hotel....love it and I also love the art deco look.

My favourite would be the Blue Heeler pub though.....love to have a beer in there.

Does anyone else have a favourite from these pubs!!!!

My mother used to run the blue Heeler in the days when it was the Kynuna pub and it has a huge Waltzing Matilda and A B Patterson connection.

It is the same one BUT it was closed and I was very disappointed I can tell you. I know the old Walkabout Creek pub from before it became famous and moved it from its original resting place to where it now stands.

I wanted to have a look at it again now that it is famous but it was not to happen.

Out there Rosco, they don't go home for the night.....they usually live on the premises, the pub is their home.

To answer your question.....I think they may have been closed for a period; it is no longer tourist season and there was no sign of life anywhere.

Lots of places were closed because it is not considered tourist season which usually runs from about April to October.

Longreach was really noticeable, nothing but the Hall of Fame was open, not even the Info Centre and the funny thing is the number of tourist I saw down the street on Saturday morning.

What a real shame Gypsy..... especially the info centre.

This time of year is when the retirees (grey nomads) get out and about as there aren't that many school kids about and it's warm.....

My parents tend to travel north in the off season as it's cold down here and warm up there and no school holidays.....

Their attitude never ceases to amaze me. Went to Birdsville a few years back just so I could have xmas lunch in the Birdsville Pub.......everything was closed.

Had to go to the police station so that he could find the caretaker so I could get into the CP.....it was closed too.

Could not even buy fuel.....wanted to buy bottled cold water for my fur babies, nothing open BUT the CP caretaker was giving his beer away.
