Camper trailer insurance

Postby Hissy » Wed Jul 04, 2007 4:30 pm

"Re-posted into the correct spot"

I am wondering do you have insurance on your camper trailers?

After all you may spend a lot of your hard earned money on something that can be damaged or run off with.

I have locks and an alarm on my trailer, do you?

As we are fitting a camper top to our trailer i have recently looked around at insurance.

Based on a trailer/camper valued at $8000 and contents e.g fridge, batteries $2000 i have been quoted $3 per week. $156 per year.

What do you think?

Am i being paranoid or just cautious?

As always looking forward to your comments.

I think you are being well prepared. How many stories have you heard of mishaps that was complicated by no or low coverage of insurance. You might want to check your vehicle to see what coverage you get there on trailers.

On cost I think we are paying about $150 per year, though we have had quotes of excess of $200/a.

we always had our CT and contents insured. One never knows what can happen on the road or while camping for that matter. From memory it cost us about $3 per week. We never had a claim but at least we had the security that if something had happened we would be covered.
We have friends who have just come back from WA who don't take out any insurance.
It's what you're comfortable with.

Pauly I'd be taking that to court. If you can be 100% sure that your in the right.

For a start its illegal not to have 3rd party...

Not sure of what happens in Victoria, but in Qld, Compulsory Third Party only covers bodily injury of another person.

Third party [property] is non compulsory but very advisable in case you damage someone elses property..

In NSW only third party is only compulsary for injuries to people.

I will be taking it to court, just not holding my breath for a result

I'd too like to know where you can get insurance for your CT for $3 a week.
A recent quote from CIL to cover all up $9000 was almost $250 ??

Mr Grumble,

I am insured with GIO.

Give them a try and let us know how you get on.

I am currently with AAMI and the cost is just under $500. Have also looked at CIL and whilst their cost is similar they actually offer more overall coverage.

EDIT...1/10/08
When I bought my new camper CIL were through the roof cost wise would not honour their original quote and had way too many limitations so I went with AAMI again.

Maybe you should call CGU. I shopped around for boat insurance and they ended up being $341.00 with a $50.00 excess. All of the others come in at up to $600.00.
It may be worth a phone call.

Just insured my camper trailer yesterday through Suncorp. To cover it for $9000 it cost me $143 for the year. Cheap cheap. I have other policies through them so a 5% discount was applied.

Hope this gives people a ball park figure or another option.
