Check out the Heat Beads® site for a short article and recipe from me. http://sizzle.heatbeads.com/

Heat Beads® are starting to recognize the use of their products for camp oven cooking and have been sponsoring a number of National Camp Oven Events. The most latest being The Great Victorian Camp Oven Festival, Heyfield, Victoria. http://www.campovenfestival.com/index.html

Gave the heat beads a go on the camp oven in the backyard recently. I found that the heatbeads didn't last long enough for a small leg of lamb. Finished it off in the oven inside. Probalby lost too much heat out the side of the beads. Otherwise it worked well.

With firewood not being supplied much anymore heatbeads are probalby going to be a good option.

Troy

With something like a roast or a big fruit cake that takes a while I usually get things going and then part way through light up a few more heat beads so that you have continuous heat. I find that I get around an hour of good heat out of heat beads.
