Camping in South East Queensland

Postby Michael Lund » Tue Nov 27, 2007 3:17 pm

I'm looking to put together a feature on some of the best camping sites in South-East Queensland for a feature for The Courier-Mail newspaper.

The range of interest is from the southern Gold Coast up to and including Fraser Island and possibly as far inland as the Bunya Mountains and Stanthorpe region (of course it can be flexible depending on camp sites). Campsites can range from the most basic to luxury in facilities.

I was wondering if any forum members would be interested in suggesting any sites for possible inclusion (or exclusion) based on their experiences. If you could e-mail a campsite name(s) and some brief details on your suggestion that would be great.

I'd also be keen to hear from any members who might have some interesting camping stories to tell, or any other useful tips, secretes and information on how to get the most out of your camping experience.

Please feel free to get in touch with your thoughts and ideas.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Include - Boreen Point Camping Ground - Great location on the water, terrific managers, clean facilities, camp fires permitted.

Exclude - Country Style Park Stanthorpe - Generator drones on half the day, the supposed water hole is a stagnant pool, on site vans must be at least 30 years old - in it's favour the camp kithcen but that's about it.

My top spots would be
Lake Cressbrook
Charlie Moreland
Peach Trees
Boreen Point

I think most of these are covered in the forum. if not I am sure we can post stuff up.

The thing about camping is that its up to individual what they want to do. There are plenty of opportunities for get away camping or go to large park and have a social event.

I think the biggest change in recent years is that people are moving away from stuff cramped in a station wagon to more RV style set ups (Its not just the grey nomads). Camper Trailers and Pop Up Caravans are becoming popular, and so are some of the high price items like fridges etc. So are peoples expectations as well.

Last point, I am not sure we have too many members who just like the caravan park at the Gold Coast type holiday. Could be wrong. Found they have different views again on camping again.

Never argue with a fool! They drag you down to their level, and beat you with experience!
