Suggestions for a charity group to head away in Oct 2008

Postby bugsssy » Sun Dec 30, 2007 2:59 pm

Hey all,

Its been a while since we last posted but we have had a bit of a rough 2007. We have started up a charity with the backing of John Hunter Children's Hospital to support parents and families that have been through the Neonatal INtensive Care Unit after we have had our last two babies there born at 26 and 28 weeks gestation. So after the horrid times we have had and the great pleasure of meeting lots of families that have been through NICU so we are wanting to organise a get away for the families that are now members of Little Wonders.

What i was wanting to ask everyone for would be suggestions for great parks to stay at with both camping and cabin facilities for families that want to come along but dont have equipment and they may also have special needs kids so need disabled facilities. We are looking for cheaper side of accomdation so families aren't out of pocket too much. We will do some fundraising so we can supply all the food and try to get a few tents very cheap from ebay and such for some families but if anyone has any great ideas please feel free to share them with us.

Back to catching up with all the new memebrs and poking my head back in to a few topics

Troyk,

Anywhere really but sticking to the North Coast of NSW, Most families have little ones so we would like to keep it South of the QLD border and within a few hours so families can head up for a day, weekend or week with our family.

What a great idea Cass, We have experienced John Hunter NICU various times unfortunately. One of our family members are now luckily 14 years old and another again is now luckily 12 - both JH babies.

Where can donations be made to

We are happy to purchase cheaper second hand tents as we can put a fly up over them and not panic. Because we will have several seasoned campers and caravaner's we wont be all headed out into an unknown world so to speak. Its just that our family either like to rough it or stay at the more resort style tourist parks so we aren't familiar with the type of accommodation that we really require as a group and thought that some of the wise people here might have stayed at some great locations that would be perfect for the group.

We liked the look of Lake St Clair out near Singleton but it doesn't have the cabin side of things for two families that have wheel chair bound little ones.

Edited to say i have the website working for me now and its exactly what we are looking for. Thanks heaps

What a wonderful thing to do.
Count me in.....I am in Qld and have a small jewellery business and would be happy to donate a % of sales to raise funds to help you. How about I chose a pendant and promote it as raising funds for John Hunter Children's Hospital? I would need some sort of letter from you or them to be able to do this. Can you suppy me with this?

When is it that you are planning to do this??
Cheers,
Chick

Hey Chick,

Little Wonders is a registered charity now and we are raising the money for John Hunter Children's Hospital and also families that are currently in NICU or that have transitioned home to help provide them with services and equipment to reduce the effects and problems that having a prem or sick newborn causes. Like helping with the cost of Oxygen for little ones to come home so we will be fundraising all the time.

The camping trip is being planned for Oct 2008 (long weekend) and we are going to be speaking to a few tourist parks to see if we can get a great group deal and then we want to be able to put on buffet style dinners and breakies to help the families out a bit cause we know how hard it with all the doctors and specialist appointment costs and know how hard it is for families to get away in the first few years of a little ones life when they are so early or sick.

I can send you a letter of authority if you wanted to raise money just email me on cassandra@littlewonders.org.au anytime and i can get back to you.

Thanks for the suggestion so far and we will let you know once we have organised everything and put up pics of the group trip away once we get back.
