Must be great to be able to travel and camp where there aren't a load of other campers along side you. Here in Arizona when the snow birds come down we have some campgrounds with 1000 or more spaces filled to the brim.
I live here and I STILL find it hard to comprehend. Its incredible.
Here's a pic to give you an idea of what I mean:
Google maps, showing the trip from Sydney, where I grew up, to where I now live.
Now that is a 6hr + trip, one way. Which mostly consists of 110kph highway driving. Only have to slow down for one town. Whenever I drive back and forth it seems like such a big distance, but really, by comparison its nothing.
Now, here's my little rant about city slickers coming, so tune out if you wish
Coming from Sydney, I know a lot of people who cry and whinge "why'd you move ALL that way out for? Its soooo far" But like I said, its NOTHING. And most people in these city's will do hardly any travel and if they do its most likely to be by plane (thank you cheap air fare wars). So, if your living in Australia, GET OUT THERE AND SEE IT (I know, I know, preaching to the converted on this site
), and if your not from Australia, but planning to come and visit, decide how long you'd like to spend here to see everything, THEN DOUBLE IT!!
Here's yet another print screen form google to emphasise the point.
I plotted out (roughly) a trip I'm planning sometime next year. Google says it's 7,090 km – about 3 days 18 hours. Thats driving 24hrs a day tho. 7000 odd km's,(not including any of the inevitable detours) and its only really 1/5th of Australia. Assuming I get pretty decent fuel economy (and prices stay about what they are now!), it works out to nearly $2000 in fuel
I don't really know why I'm typing all this
I guess the more I think about it the more mind boggling it is. That and I just got some DVD's of the cape so I'm really pumped for the trip, whish I was going this year
(btw thanks to the person who sent them
) hope I didn't bore you all.
