Brisbane Outdoors or Adventure Club.

Hi All.
Some years ago in Brisbane there was a social club called the Adventures Club which catered for all sorts of outdoors activities, I joined them in their later years before it closed due to lack of steam/input from members. Sadly there doesn't appear to be any groups around like that anymore.
So heres the thing, does anyone out there know of any groups which cater for all activities in the one group suitable for single adults/couples & families. Activities would include (but not limited too) Camping & Caravaning, Canoeing & other water sports, Bike Riding (both pedal power & motor), Bushwalking, Photography, 4x4 Etc.
Or is there enough interest from members & your friends to start a group get together via this forum, I don't have the time these days to start & run a club that has monthly meetings etc. but if we could have an outings section setup for each state & members could post up trip details etc. for others to reply so every one can see who's going & then give a short trip report when they get back in the same section.
Looking forward to your replies! Cheers Terry.

Brisbane Outdoors or Adventure Club

Postby Joy » Tue Nov 08, 2005 10:20 pm

Hi Ingenious (Great Name by the way),

This sounds like just the thing we would like to support. We are getting a few more interested people asking about such groups. We would like to get someone in each region to get the ball rolling. We can assist in sponsoring to some degree, i.e. some advertising, newsletter etc. If we can get some numbers we can get the members discounts at some of the outdoor shops we deal with. I have been talking to a few others in other States, would be great to have someone in Brisbane to get it started ‘are you the one’?

I'm happy to put my hand up for now to get the ball rolling in Brisbane/Gold Coast areas, So c'mon people even if you can't go camping right away or don't have the gear etc. at least let me know who's keen as it's all about having fun, meeting new people, trying new things & best of all visiting the best parts of Australia.
P.S. A few more activities to add to the list: Fishing, Snorkleing, Camp Cooking & what ever else you enjoy doing.
Cheers Terry.

Hi there,

I'm not sure how old you are, so this might not be too relevant ... but in my experience, the univeristies generally have the most well-organized outdoors-activities clubs ... i'm not sure about the ones at Q'sland uni, but i was (and still am) a member of several of the uni clubs in sydney ... for instance, one i've still remained somewhat active with in sydney has a membership of about 450, trips of some sort run at least weekly (bushwalking, mountain-biking, canoeing, kayaking, white-water rafting, white-water kayaking, adventure races, snowboarding, XC-skiing, skydiving, caving, canyoning, rockclimbing (both indoor and outdoor, with discounted prices for indoor on club nites), abseiling, diving, free-diving, paragliding, rogaining/orienteering) ... plus heaps of social events like drinks at the pub, dinner get togethers, slide nites, etc ... the trip leaders also organize expedition-stlye trips from time to time ...

most uni clubs tend to have an average members' age of around 30-ish, with at least half the students being graduates, or friends/family of graduates ...

anyhow, its certainly a possibilty worth looking into ...

Thanks for that info Azuriel,
I had assumed that the Uni outdoors clubs were for Uni students only, so I will need to investigate this avenue a little further & post up any info I can find out.
Cheers Terry.

the only thing with the uni clubs is that non-students get charged a slightly higher membership fee, usually $10-$15 per year more ... but the membership fees usually includes insurance provided by the university's sports union ...

Social/single Camping Clubs

Postby leisha » Wed Mar 29, 2006 8:14 pm

To all,

I have just joined tonight and am on the search for single/family camping clubs. Should you start a club I would love to be a part of it. I have several friends who I go camping with and are also interested in this idea also.

Try the yellow or whte pages in your state first. If that deosn't work try some camping clubs in the area. Some have special categories for that sort of thing or might be able to point you in the right direction.

Hope this helps.

Might be a bit late with this one - but have you checked out the anaconda Adventure Club - go to - they seem to describe exactly what you are looking for.

Outdoor Adventures

Postby Red Rust » Sun Jul 02, 2006 1:40 pm

Hey Guys,

I'm delighted to discover that you're discussing this topic. This is exactly what I am hoping to link up with - general outdoor adventure trips with like minded people. I'm a keen camper with a background in 4WD (but nolonger have one) and wish to expand into bush walking, rock climbing and mountaineering. I love getting away an am hoping some of you might post upcoming trips to get the ball rolling.

I'm heading up to the Mapelton hinterlands this coming weekend (10th July) for some tranquil surrounds and good food n wine.

May be doing a trip around Kennilworth and/or Sandy Creek late July/early August if anyone's keen. Good places for for cozy fires, camp-oven cooking, nice running water and access for 4WD. Let me know if you'd like more info and/or wish to link up. Cheers, M.

Hey Red Rust (or rusty for short).

We have had many people wanting to get this sort of thing going however the timing has not been right however hang in there we will do what we can to get some more coverage for the forum so we can get everyone interested in the outings in the forum at the same time.

If we get enough people interested we are happy to chip in for some food and try and help organise but as a lot of people are in different regions it is a case of getting it started with a couple of people, keeping the motivation and building on that.

Hang in there we will get a group up in Brisbane yet. This Condamine Gorge day trip Barby-Q mentioned sounds good. :)

As for the Condamine Gorge trip, I'm looking mid to late August . If yoy dont have a 4wd its ok you can take the high road and meet up at the same place . A good chance to all get together and discuss future camping trips , this just maybe the thing to get the ball rolling. So if you are interested reply to the post

It will be good to get this off the ground, so as you say a day drip is a good place to start, I will have too see how things are traveling as that weekend gets closer, hopefully I will be there.
