QLD - Jondaryan Woolshed (just west of Toowoomba)

We just spent the weekend at Jondaryan, so thought I'd post a short review.

Jondaryan would make a great spot for a group weekend away. There is plenty for the kids to see and do around the woolshed - horse/cart rides, animals galore, historic buildings and machinery, shep shearing demo's etc. The campsite area itself isn't that flash, but there are some fairly good shaded areas. The facilities are quite good - clean toilets, hot showers and a fantastic camp kitchen. It's the biggest camp kitchen I think I've come across. It has about 20 sets of tables and chairs, several fridges, two enormous old wood stoves, plus the more modern conveniences such as toasters and kettles. The kitchen also has a massive fire pit in the middle for spit roasting. (I've taken a couple of photo's of the kitchen and will post them as soon as I get the chance).

Other than camping, you can also stay in the old Shearer's quarters. These are very basic - a corrugated iron room with 4 beds, however they do have power and are suprisingly comfortable, and at just $5 per night an abosulte bargain.

It would be a good place for a forum weekend, however it would need to be in the warmer months as I can imagine the middle of winter would be failry chilly - one of the locals told us that last winter they raeched -6 several times overnight.

Inland cold is a different type of cold to coastal cold :!:

[chuckle] colder [/chuckle] or so it seems, after a warm day the nights are cooler, I guess because the the outback is usually cloud free.

In that case it certainly wouldn't be a top pick for winter. It would be great around the fire pit, but I'm not sure crawling back to the tents would be a lot of fun.
