NSW - Katoomba Camping

Postby Scolers » Mon Jul 10, 2006 10:02 am

I was raised in Sydney during the 70's and 80's and used to camp around Katoomba, Narrow Neck, Cox's River a heck of a lot. Just wodnering if all these areas are still open to the public.

Also, there was a short but simple walk that used to be in Katoomba (I think it was called Ruined Castle, something to do with castles). Is it still there? Can you still walk around that area? Are they clsoing areas off?

Cheers ...

Far as I know the areas you mentioned are still open and still spectacular. A lot more eco management in evidence, low impact activities encouraged and a lot more attention by rangers and NPWS staff. The six-foot track is still open and any weekend there are quite a few walkers. They have done quite a bit to the picnic area at the end of Megalong Rd (basic pit toilets etc) and it's busy on weekends but during the week, a nice free spot for a quiet camp.

Cheers
