QLD - Rossmore Park Kilkivan

What a great little campground this is. It has been on my 'list' of pet friendly venues to do for quite some time but just never got there until now.

One of the most attractive things about this campground is that they limit the numbers camping in peak times. They also limit how close the next person camps to you unless you are in a group.

The cost is pretty great too at $95 per week for 2 adults with power.
$17 per night per couple with power and $14 without.

As you can see they also have basic 'huts' available though I think they are unpowered.

They do have some cold drinks and ice available at a very reasonable price at the campground laundry with all the profits going to the RSPCA.

There is a basic camp kitchen and laundry with washing machine which is $2 per load.

Campfires are permitted with them supplying the firewood but they also encourage you to get your own from the nearby bush if possible. It does need to be split and may even need cutting down to size with a chainsaw.

Here is the website http://www.kilkivancampingcaravans.info/

Prophet Gold Mine is just up the road if you are interested in gold panning. http://www.prophetau.com

Kilkivan as a town is beyond even basic. It has 2 fuel outlets, 2 takeaways, a butcher and 3 antique/collectables shops and nothing else that I could identify. Even getting a loaf of bread there can be a challenge.

There is a 'little' market in town on Sunday morning worth a look and the Wonga Drive In is about 20 mins drive back towards Gympie. Will post report and pics of it separate to this.

It definitely means a drive into Gympie for any necessities.

There is a Lavender farm in the area but it is closed and not expected to re open until November-December.

Here are some more pics of Rossmore Park. The amenities block is rather rustic looking but quite spacious and definitely very clean.

There are also quite a number of frogs, very friendly frogs there.

The Wonga Drive In is located off the Wide Bay Highway about halfway between Gympie and Kilkivan. http://www.wongadrivein.com.au/

There are 3 fields with 2 current pictures showing in each field on Friday and Saturday evenings. They were also showing on Sunday evening being a long weekend which I imagine is pretty standard.

Cost of admission is $25 for a car load of 4 people. Deck chairs are also available for hire at a cost of $2.00.

The sites are terraced and grassed and they support both the old fashioned speaker in the window or through the radio.

There is a drive in near here and they advertise that "if you don't like the movie then you can slash the seats"
