QLD - Bigriggen, Rathdowney, April 2008

Postby Troyk » Wed Apr 09, 2008 6:40 pm

We have just come back from a weekend camping at Bigriggen. All the weather was good but it did get a little breezy on the Saturday.

The cost was $7pn for adults and $4 for kids.

Biggriggen is set on 50 acres so even though there were quite a few campers, there was a bit of space between sites.

There is just the one amenity block for the site so it can be a bit of walk back and fro. Also there wasn’t much queuing. The showers were 20c for 2 mins.

Firewood is available for $7 for a 25kg bag. There are a number of rings made from 44gallon drums around the place. You will need a good splitting axe though as some of the pieces can be quite large.

Image

There is plenty of space for the kids to bring their bikes and ride around, or kick a ball etc. There is a waterhole but was a little on the cool side.

The possums were quite friendly though I think they had food on their minds.

This was Forest the Frog at the amenity building (sorry I wasn’t quick enough to flick to macro mode)

They also had a community hall available for groups.

I stayed there a few easters ago....All I can say is don't bother....I felt like I was in a refugee camp. The owners had no idea of how to run a busy camp what so ever....the may do now, but they didn't back then.

Think it may well be under different management now.

Good to hear Cruiser. I have heard good reports since the place changed hands, I only wish it was 'pet friendly':-((

Just spend the weekend at Bigriggen and loved it. We took the canoe, telescope to look at the stars and moon and spend two hours feeding the possums. We found the camp staff very friendly and they even rode down to our campsite to deliver a phone message from our teenage son. Amenities are clean and campsites spread out. We are going again in the school holidays. I was hoping to add a photo but no idea how to do that. Can anyone tell me how?

Took me only an 1 1/2 hours from Kingston without trying to hard. Beautiful country all 'round there. Nice place for a day trip with the family as well.

I live at Carindale and on a good run it can take me an hour and a half...that includes a quick stop at Maccas at Beaudesert...is a good run and a lovely easy drive.

Think it's time for another trip out there, has been a month or so since was last there.

Good to hear you found the place so enjoyable dea. I wonder if the management has changed hands again.
