Trip Advice Needed - Gold Coast to Fraser Island

Postby Skasian » Fri Nov 07, 2008 12:04 pm

My Family of 4 people are planning a trip north to Fraser Island.

Problem is that travelling from Gold Coast to Fraser in one day + setting up tent etc... will be too tiring and we will most likely arrive there very late. Therefore we are looking for a place to stay the night on the way, somewhere near the Noosa area (but not Noosa since we've been there).

Anyone have any suggestions where we can stay? We're looking at a Caravan Park of some sort if possible to keep costs as low as possible (motels and the like are too expensive for a simple camping trip).

Regards, Skasian

Hi Skasian what about
www.maroochypark.qld.gov.au/ you have a choice here. However its not that a long drive to rainbow from the coast and you could pitch at inskip but you will need a permit or another is
www.rainbowwaters.com.au you can relax here after the drive this is a nice camping ground you can pitch out the back its away from the caravan and you are allowed fires in the rings. have a great and safe trip, frasers brilliant dont forget it would be lovely to hear a report of your trip and maybe some photo's . Hi, We stayed at Mudjimba Caravan park a few years back and we were very happy with it. Its just north of Maroochydore
http://www.maroochypark.qld.gov.au/
hope that helps
We live out near Jimboomba and we often go to Fraser. We leave early in the morning and are usually there and set up by about 2pm.
Make sure you pick your tide times and leave home about 6 in the morning and you will be up at Rainbow Beach by lunch, 10 mins on the barge and your there :+

Thanks for the advice, greatly appreciated:

One more question, on Fraser Island what are some suggested camp-sites. Preferrably one with hot water showers/amenities if that is possible?

Thanks :)

Hi again,
We have stayed at Dilli Villiage which is on the southern end of the island. It was a good spot, fully fenced to keep the locals out ( dingos). It had modern toilets and showers. its camp where you like and we set up near the water tank which had a huge light on it which made an excellent camp light and there was undercover cooking areas. Downside is that you do more driving because this park is down south.
The other we used was Cathedral Beach resort ,again a good spot with its own servo and shop. My thirsty V8 loved the servo. It has good toilets etc inc undercover eating area. we did have goanna's and one night we heard dingo's wandering around as the site isnt fenced, BUT we never had a problem with either the Goanna's or the dingo's
Oh another point to remember is that bins are not everywhere, for instance Dilli didnt have bins so we had to do a bin run up the beach to where the bins were, and cathedral had bins onsite which the goanna's loved hiding in. That made a memorable camping moment when you put rubish in a bin and find a goanna in there :?
Cathedral has a sandblow right behind it. Its a 15 min walk but well worth it.
Over all its lots of fun and you will enjoy yourself even if you get bogged, just look out for the tour bus's because they dont give way and they dont have to. Read the rules that they give you when you get your permits, its amazing that a tour bus gets right of way, and so does the plane that lands on the beach, look out for that also. :***
Have fun!! If you have any other questions that I can help you with feel free to ask here or email bellaposs@hotmail.com
