Cool Weather camping QLD in January? Help!

Postby kalouise » Sun Nov 30, 2008 7:28 pm

Hello!

We are looking for a group (4 tents) camping area which would be our best bet during the HOT month of January...

We have lots of kids coming so need something with either a creek etc. for them to cool off in...

Thought of Lamington, Bunya Mtns, but don't think there is swimming at either? Maybe I'm wrong?

Could anyone help with suggestions? The cooler the better!!! :)

Cool spot in Queensland during January?

That's a big ask..

You either have to have altitude (can still be very humid) or you need lots of fresh water.

Lamington requires long walks to get to and from water.
Bunya, can't remember any sizeable waters there.
Boolumba creek near Kennilworth usually has good water..
Around Rathdowney there are a number of camping grounds..Bigriggen, Flanagans Reserve, Andrew Drynan Park..All have water onhand or very nearby.
Darlington Park is pretty good..no showers.

I am sure there will be more suggestions.

My opinion is to go for beach camping if you like it and are able (4wd). The sea breeze off the ocean keeps you cool. Somewhere like straddie has patrolled beach within 30mins drive of the Main beach camp area - and also Brown and Blue lakes.
