it's all gone crazy :-)

Postby stevo. » Thu Dec 04, 2008 7:49 pm

Don't take me the wrong way, i'm not being nasty at all... I am just giving some feedback/input.

I have some feedback / suggestions. ( in understand that i don't come here much and it's usually best to ignore me, but i'll post anyway)

With the photo comp section sub categories. Here are the stats.
WA = 0
ACT = 0
Tas = 0
NT = 0
SA = 1 thread
QLD = 18 threads
NSW = 3 threads
Vic = 3 threads

I would recommend removing all the sub categories and moving all the threads in to one main forum. I think someone got a bit excited with the sub category thing. It's my personal view that sub categories don't work. I accept that people will disagree and i don't mind being wrong.

====

Also, i think that when new sections are made, they should be given about 6 months, and if they don't take off and fill up with threads, then they should be closed and threads moved to the suitable sections. I have seen mayn forums with huge amounts of sections. It's like they think having 10 million sections it will create more fun/action?

For small forums, the more sections you have, the more spread out the content is when there is limited posting. Small forums might benefit from fewer sections and more turn over in each section.

feel free to bag me out. I don't mind a bit of debate :armsup

You got my vote Steve....

Another issue is.......the greater number of sub forums the more difficult it is to seach for a particular post

Cheers.....

I'm still getting used to this forum, but I have to agree..... this forum is not as active as other forums I post in and it should have a more intimate feel to it by not having so many sub categories.

I have to agree with Meeky here. Two sections that also appear to get very little traffic, and therefore perhaps don't really need to be here at this point in time, are "Favourite Camping Locations", and "Motorhomes and Campervans".
It's all fun and games until someone gets hurt - then it's bloody hilarious!

I do the same HGMonaro. I do however go through the catagories now and again.

Thanks Meeky and everyone,

Don't worry we always appreciate feedback. I am aware of the problem and will try and get time to fix it soon. Unfortunately this forum has a bug in it if you change one thing on any post in admin the entire forum goes crazy. So I need to create a new forum and export it across, which I did a few months ago but when I left it for a week it got a whole new round of posts so never switched them. But I will reorganise this shortly and will have to shut the site down for a few hours to switch them.

Once this is done we can start adding new threads and organising it the way we want; I know its due.. Sorry about that :grin:

One point I dont agree with is the need for a 4WD section. There are heaps of forums out there covering that. I prefer to see this stay for items dealing with camping. That is why this is my first forum each day

I think 4WD can be included but as an adjunct to camping not necessarily in a section on its own.
