Thanks to everyone for their tips and hints in the lead up to our second camping adventure.
Thought I would provide an update on our weekend....
We arrived on Friday at Tallebudgerra Creek Tourist Park to grey skies and rumbling thunder and managed to put the tent up in the rain (good story for later) quite successfully - (minus the husband who was "leaving in 10 minutes from work") it would have been a bit easier if we had brought the fly however hubby thought we would trial it without it as we were only away for the weekend and it wouldn't REALLY matter for just a couple of days, a quote that may haunt him for a long time yet.
We had requested a site not near the road if possible however it looked like the park was almost full on Friday so we ended up next to the old Gold Coast Highway - a tip for anyone who may visit the park unless you plan to drink heavily
or are a heavy sleeper try to get as far away from the road as you can!!!
Amenties were good, they were cleaned often and well (it seemed there were plenty of showers and toilets to cater for busy periods) - they didn't have keys for the toilets instead a pin code to get in and out of the park and the toilets and showers, after a few vinos you did have to check the code before you went to the loo!! The bins were emptied regularly which was nice given the park was busy. BBQ's near us were in use constantly and everyone cleaned up after themselves. Shop is well stocked and staff are friendly.
Overall we had a lovely time and our son wanted to spend almost every waking moment down at the creek. We didn't fish but could have, beach was a bit yucky (lots of rips) however creek was crystal clear and provided plenty of hours of fun. It did rain, however our tent didn't leak so we can't complain.
HOWEVER.... arriving home on Monday afternoon we had to re set up the tent - it was wet (and no amount of sweeping on Monday morning was going to get rid of the grass and the dirt) and clean out and hose down or dry out basically everything we took. We have learnt in future to take the fly, even if it is just for a couple of days.
Chris and Vina - I hope you enjoy your stay at the park - as we were leaving on Monday most of the families were packing up as well, so I guess it will be a bit quieter. The walk up the creek and along the beach path is lovely; we stopped in at the surf clubs along the way for a drink and then turned around came back and had a swim in the creek to cool off and back to our site for dinner.
