NSW & Vic border - LAKE MULWALA SKI CLUB TOURIST PARK

Postby xmasbaby67 » Wed Jan 14, 2009 5:04 pm

We had a week at this park and were a little disappointed with the state of the park.
It just seemed tired and the grassed powered sites were in dire need of a mow and general tidy up.
The amenities were OK but by the end of the day were pretty dirty and untidy which we didn't find at the other parks we stayed at.
The cabins (in front of our site) and the new apartments looked really nice and they front onto crown land on the lakes edge which is nice lawn and bbqs and tables. We were only 20 metres from the lakes edge and used to go down each nite with our drinks and nibblies and sit and take it all in. The view from our CT was beautiful especially at sunset.
The ski club is only up the way about 100 metres and you have to enter the park thru the ski club entrance. They had a pirate ski show on twice a week with fireworks which was great and the highlight of our stay.
After talking to some of the people who stay here every year and the onsite van owners the ski club has really let the park go and it is really starting to show.
There is not much for the kids to do. They only have a small play area for smaller kids, there is no pool (I know we are on the lake but with the amount boat and jet ski activity u have to be very careful with the kids) Our kids ski and we took our boat (outboard) but the lake is chokkas full of this weed and if the kids fall when skiing u have untangle all the weeds from their ropes and skis so they have a smooth take off, it also played up with our boat's motor which was disappointing. The great thing is there are very little flies or mozzies.
We had a great time here but expected it to be a little flashier for the money (cost the same as the Big 4 in Swan Hill)
People(especially the kids) weren't very social as most of them were regulars and had been coming years and years. Still we met a few couples that weren't regulars and found they said the same thing so we all teamed up each nite by the lake for drinkies while the kids played.
We also had trouble with the amount of noise and a few yobbos (these were the tattooed big hardened ones though!!) and had to call the office twice on our last nite as it was quite bad and they were looking for trouble (they sent 4 security guards down to check it out so not a great sign), I also think it has to do with the Ski Club being so close so they are up there drinking all nite and then wander back to their cabin (which just happened to be up our end of the park) and then crank their music up and keep drinking and all this started from 11.30 till about 1 in the morning. They had security guards from the club patrolling the park on a regular basis all nite(we had quite a few stop in our camp for coffee and chat our during their shift while walking past, very nice people) so for this to happen it's obvious they have problems with what goes on after the ski club shuts if this is what happens each nite???
Probably wont go back but can say I have been there done that....

Our CT all packed and ready to go... we put all our luggage, pillows and swags in the big green bag on the top of the trailer which leaves heaps of room in the back of the car for the fridge and kid stuff.... Took this photo at Lake Boga which is completely dry and just a real sad site..... damn politics is ruining the Murray...
