Where to camp.. by location..

Postby GoneBushAussie » Sun Jan 18, 2009 8:53 pm

Hi all. I have searched the web on and off over the lsat few years trying to find free bush campsites where you can pitch a tent in peace. All to very little avail. I am interested in compiling a list of such sites for each state and creating a website for those of us who enjoy the bush.. If you know of any campsites please post them here.. State, Location, Directions, etc. and photos if you have them. :)

Why not just add them to this great website rather than starting a new one.

To be frank GBA, you ain't the first one to rock up and ask the question or something similar. :?

The funny bit is that they never to come to much.

I agree with Derek, why not do it here? We are a friendly bunch.

All the POI we have are from Camps Australia Wide 3 and 4, Kerry (the missus) found a file online that someone had made for their GPS, Kerry modified the file to suit our PDA GPS on OziExplorer and Navman.

As mentioned there are alredy websites with this information

Victorian State parks/Forests are fee free and generally only the more popular National Parks have camping fees
http://www.parkweb.vic.gov.au/1process_ ... activity=5
Listed parks allow camping & most have downloadable Visitor Guides (in pdf format)

I believe NSW state forests are also fee free, but the NSW national parks while some are free others can be expensive,
Qld parks seem to have reasonable prices.
Links to each state parks web sites on the front page of camping.com.au
http://www.camping.com.au/index.cfm?fus ... onal_parks

There's a thread around here somewhere discussing gps coordinates of camps etc.
Some national parks have long waiting lists for camping reservations.

You will find basic or no toilet facilities, and sometimes picnic tables and barbecue/fire pits. Wood can be collected from wood bins only.Always check the access requirements for these sites. Most tracks to bush camping areas require 4WD

Go to Baverian Camp in mouston wisconsin, just past the dells. It is located on castle rock lake, has a beach and not a lot of kids. You can rent campers down there too. If you decide to go say hi to Horst.

OK - bit of a drive from here. Maybe if I put a snorkel on the 4WD...
