Self inflating mattresses & condensation

Postby jezzabel » Sun May 03, 2009 8:53 pm

Hi
I love our self inflating mattresses but really dislike the heavy condensation in the cooler weather that has to be mopped up and dried off the beds every morning, sometimes this is really impossible because of rain, cold weather etc.
Has anyone had any similiar experiences and/or any ideas to combat this situation?
Thanks

What are you using on your mattress to sleep in/under?

Usually ventilation is the key to reducing condensation.

Is the condensation forming on top or underneath the mattress? If it is underneath (between the floor and the mattress) then using something to insulate under the mattress, like a picnic rug, may help.

We used one of these for 12 months before getting the camper trailer and we may have had a slight dampness on cold mornings but nothing that needed mopping. Do you get condensation on the walls/roof of the tent - if so increasing the ventilation is probably the way to go.

The alternative is to breath less! :#

Ventilation in the tent is good, no condensation at all. We are sleeping in sleeping bags. I thought about putting something down under the mattresses like a thin layer of foam perhaps. The moisture just seems so excessive though. As for holding my breath, thats a good plan B :)

I just got home from a very cold and rain at times weekend camping at Kenilworth with my self inflatable mattress and didnt have any condensation at all. Then again i have those rubber click mats and then a airbed then my self inflatable.

Never had a problem with the matress getting moist. Is it in direct contact with the ground. if so it may be bringing moisture to the surface.
