Tent Advice

Postby Braden » Mon Jun 08, 2009 4:50 pm

G'day guys,

I am pretty new to camping/hiking and Im looking to buy my first tent. I am after a 1 man 'swag/cocoon' type tent and have a few questions. Should I buy a canvas tent or regular tent. I camp in some wet areas, obviously not going to go away if I know its going to pour down but sometimes (like this weekend) you get caught out and I dont want to get wet again. I have about 300 dollars to spend and have been looking at the Black Wolf Mantis and Cocoon. Peoples opinions would be appreciated.

Does it need to be lightweight?

If not get a canvas swag (I love my Mr Swagman one)

If yes, go the black wolf.

Swags are waterproof but you need to have them set up properly as the canvas is still moist and cold when it rains, so you don't want the canvas resting on you. But if you know its not going to rain it's heaps easier to set up than a one man tent. Just need to roll it out and go to bed.

I'll probably go with the black wolf, seems like its the best of both worlds, lightweight and waterproof.
