Granted, it aint like conditioning the poles with vanilla or anything
But I don't find it too intrusive. I also use it to oil timber decking around the BBQ and haven't noticed any residual smell apart from the odd burnt T-Bone
I don't regard the smell of Lanotec to be any more noticable then that of WD40, being a more natural base (ie Lanolin - sheep), I think I'd prefer the Lanotech odour over that of a peterolium by-product.
Besides, I hear the odour of the Lanotec is favoured by our counterparts on the other side of the Tasman
