The other side of Wyangala Dam

The other side of Wyangala Dam

Some may know, some may not, that there are two camping areas at Wyangala Dam. Both are pet friendly as they are a part of the State Recreation Park system in New South Wales. We didn't camp there but did go for a look around this weekend.

We went for a visit to the Grabine side of the lake, which is more easily accessed from Crookwell than Cowra.

A view of the dam from a nearby lookout. The Disco got up there OK, but for the sake of a safe descent it was a case of low range 4WD on the way down.

The trust Disco at the park entry.

The park itself has both powered and unpowered campsites, the unpowered ones being 'freeform.' There is a little shop, BBQ's and an onsite ranger.

Most importantly the area is the home to lots of wildlife, and there is a pet free wildlife preserve. We drove it and did some low range 4WD work once we spotted the albino kangaroo.

After lots of moving really slowly we got the following couple of shots.

We were not close, but the zoom helped out!

The plan is that we will go back and camp there in the future, once things warm up a bit.

This is sort of a bit off topic maybe, but I thought that it was worthwhile giving the area a plug. And how often do you get to see a real life albino skippy in the wild?

Cheers
Kev

Sad news Kev, we lost our albino skippy over 12 mths ago. Very sad time as he was legendary out here, it even made the local paper.

xmasbaby67 - do you mean the same kanga as in my pics? I am fairly sure they were taken in about August last year.

I may be wrong with the amount of time he's been gone but I'm pretty sure that's him Kev, he was well known out there and the only albino one at the dam & his passing made the local paper.

But I could be wrong and there is more than the one albino skippy out there, that would be great!!!!
