Good Camping ..Coochen Creek......Beerwah near Brisbane

Postby Smileandhug » Tue Sep 15, 2009 4:15 pm

Just spent 3 nites at this campsite and is run by the EPA. $5 per adult per nite. Has toilets, water but no showers. Firepits available n wood available from left overs from timber cutting. Not crowded out (25 sites all up)and tent sites are on boxed in sand squares. Grass good to lay on and nice amount of shade. Walkways been built to river edge and good swimming river for kids. Fishing quiet but alot better in a few months when it warms up. But its 13km from Beerwah but must say the RSL is a nice set up. Campsite 4 km off Gympie Highway down Roys Road and 2WD accessible.

It has always been a great place. Had my first father/son camping trip with my son many years ago.

How were the mossies and sand flies

Derek mossies around on sunset Saturday nite but then gone so had no dramas with them for the rest of the time.

Never felt a sandfly.

Was prepared for the mossies/sandflys as I use a one part mix of three different ingredients. Each part the same amount. That is in a spray bottle I mix one part metho, one part baby oil and one part dettol. Works a treat.

Take care Derek

Coochin Creek is a great spot.
Fishing and Crabbing
Insects can be a bother in summer.

On Friday and Saturday nights the drunken yobbos tend to turn up and spoil it for the families.
Best camping is through the week.
Hardly ever is there more than 3 sites taken.

Thanks Derek.....I did think that was the case for Coochin Creek. It has never been on my list for that reason but thought I would still ask the question...just in case!!

BTW some State Parks are pet friendly.

Hi Gypsy, but yeah no dogs allowed. Was talking to the ranger there and he was saying its a shame they dont open up more camping areas on the creek systems around Brisbane......pity it all has to be ALL concrete up the coast.
